IPL treatments? Photorejuvenation? A Photofacial? If you are wondering what the heck these services are, we’re here to give you all the juicy details you need to know. Keep reading to find out exactly how this new treatment can help save your skin from the sun!
The sun in Houston, Texas can be brutal on your skin; this is why we always stress the importance of SPF to everyone we see. Sometimes sun damage is just too much for your skin, and it can cause noticeable skin pigmentation. And unfortunately, we know it sucks, but pigmentation can be the most difficult issue to treat topically. IPL treatments can help. Below, we’ll tell you exactly what it is, how many treatments you need and everything you need to know about the treatment everybody is talking about.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL,) is an intense, visible, broad-spectrum light that heats and destroys brown spots, broken capillaries and sunspots on the face, neck and chest. This technology is used in our IPL photofacial here at Houston Skin Associates. An IPL Photofacial treats skin with quick, powerful flashes of light; the light penetrates below the skin’s surface to target where brown discoloration lives. Then the heat works to break down the pigment into tiny particles, which either rise to the skin’s surface as scabs, or get carried away by the body’s lymphatic system. IPL is not be confused with a laser. Instead of using a single wavelength of light, IPL uses a flash of light in front of which filters are placed which filter out most wavelengths except those taken up by pigment and blood vessels, depending on the filter used.
IPL Photofacials typically take between 3-6 treatments to show significant results, but some patients see results after their first treatment. Photofacials can occur every three-to-four weeks.
Because IPL treatments use multiple wavelengths of light instead of lasers, the treatments work without any deep resurfacing. So, there is no downtime! Some patients only see minor redness, and it is possible to see successful results right after the first session. Photofacials rank high in customer satisfaction because of its convenience and significant benefits.
If you do not want an intensive resurfacing treatment, and you want little to no downtime after the procedure, an IPL Photofacial may be right for you. Busy people enjoy the convenience of this procedure. However, we recommend scheduling a free consultation here to have a Houston Skin Associates’ skin care professional determine if an IPL photofacial treatment is right for you.
What to expect during an IPL Photofacial:
Most side effects from treatments that use IPL are mild and will go away within a couple of hours or days of treatment.
Common Possible Risks
IPL technology can treat a wide range of skin issues: brown spots, broken capillaries, freckles and sunspots. There are many potential benefits.
