An updated letter from Dr. Ranario
Taking great care of your skin goes beyond washing your face twice a day with an off-brand facial wash.
(Hey, if this is working for you, that is alright but we’re here to tell you that there’s more!)
One of the best things you can do for your skin is to get rid of the dead layers of skin.
An effective way to do this is to get a chemical peel.
A lot of the time, copious amounts of information are given about what you can expect before and during a chemical peel.
However, the care you give your skin after a chemical peel is just as important as the procedure.
In this post, we will talk about what to expect after a chemical peel and what type of care you should give your skin so that you achieve that healthy glow you are looking for.
After a chemical peel, you can expect your skin to continue peeling for up to a week depending on the type of chemical peel that was done.
If this is your first time undergoing a chemical peel, don’t panic! This is completely normal.
It is important during this time that you don’t pull off any of the skin peels coming off.
Your skin is very delicate after a chemical peel and it is important that you don’t pick at the peels as this could cause unnecessary injury to your skin, which will cause discoloration/hyperpigmentation that you are trying to get rid of.
During this time, it is important that you take care of your skin very gently.
Until all the peels come off and the new skin underneath heals to reveal the look you are going for, don’t use harsh cleansers or toners on your skin.
During this time, we suggest that you use a gentle cleanser and hydrating gel that contains hyaluronic acid or ceramides.
Our Hydrating B5 Gel is excellent for this purpose.
And we are excited to let you know that this month if you purchase the Phyto+, Hydrating B5 Gel and Discoloration Defense, you will get a free cleanser that will be gentle on your skin.
Expect swelling after a chemical peel
Not everyone will experience this. However, it is important to note that it is possible to experience some swelling after a chemical peel.
Our Skinceuticals Phyto+ is a botanical gel that contains four natural ingredients which prevent inflammation and kills bacteria. It also helps with evening out discoloration. It is excellent to include in your post-procedure regimen.
Check out Phyto+ here.
Avoiding the sun after a chemical peel
After a chemical peel, it is important to avoid the sun.
The peels that occur after a chemical peel are akin to the peels that happen when you get sunburned.
Sunburns are not fun. Exposing your sunburns to more sun is even worse.
Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun are notorious for causing uneven pigmentation in the skin.
This leads to aged skin, wrinkles and dehydration.
With a chemical peel, layers of the skin that protect you from these UV rays have been removed and are peeling.
The exposed skin underneath is fragile and can get damaged quicker when it comes into contact with UV rays from the sun.
Thus, if there is a need for you go outside into the sun after a chemical peel, it is important that you use protective measures like sun block, sun glasses, an umbrella and/or protective clothing that covers exposed portions of your skin.
Because we care deeply about how your skin heals after a chemical peel, during the month of September when you buy 6 chemical peels you will receive a post-procedure bundle for absolutely free.
