About Dr. Tyring

Stephen Tyring, MD, PhD, FAAD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained dermatologist at Houston Skin Associates in Houston, Webster, and Pearland, Texas. He specializes in diagnosing, treating, and researching mucocutaneous diseases and provides exceptional personalized care to dermatology patients of all ages and backgrounds.

Dr. Tyring grew up in Indiana before attending Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, for his undergraduate education. He then earned his master’s degree from Abilene Christian University (ACU) in Abilene, Texas, before receiving his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. 

He also earned a doctorate at Texas Tech University (TTU) in Lubbock, Texas, before completing his dermatology residency at the University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. 

Once Dr. Tyring completed his years of education and training, he returned to Texas and established the Dermatological Association of Texas and Center for Clinical Studies. 

He maintains active memberships in various societies and professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), and the American Federation for Clinical Research (AFCR).

Dr. Tyring sits on several editorial boards and serves as a reviewer for prestigious medical journals like the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Antiviral Research, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology, Journal of Infectious Diseases and Annals of Internal Medicine (ACP Journals).

He has been a principal investigator in over 200 clinical trials and has authored over 1000 journal articles, book chapters, and books. 

In his current position, Dr. Tyring frequently diagnoses and treats conditions such as melasma, warts, herpes, skin cancer, eczema, and fungal infections.
